About the farm visit

What does a visit to my farm involve, and how should I prepare? Here are some key points to consider before hosting a class on your farm.

The planning

The school class should start by searching for a suitable farm on the website. Use the filters to narrow down your results by distance, date and type of farm. Once you have found a suitable option, you can send a request to the farm with just one click.

The farmer then receives an email with the farm visit request. This message includes all the necessary contact details (email, phone number). The date and details of the visit can then be agreed with the teacher, so that both sides can prepare accordingly. The main thing is to make sure the visit is arranged through the Letzfarm platform, so that there are no issues with the Ministry covering the costs.

The preparation

Before a school class visits your farm, some preparation is required. This includes both a preliminary discussion with the teaching staff and getting your farm ready for the visit.

It is advisable to make clear arrangements in advance and inform the teacher of any farm rules or special conditions. It is also recommended to hold the preliminary meeting with the teacher on your farm, if possible. This way, they can familiarise themselves with the location and the route in advance.

A detailed list of all necessary preparations and safety measures can be found in our guide.

The visit

The farm visit should last at least 2.5 hours. It can take place either in the morning or the afternoon.

Make sure the roles of the teaching staff and the farmer are clearly defined and not mixed up. The teacher remains responsible for supervising the class during the visit, while the farmer serves as the expert guide and host on site.

When welcoming a school class, you should start by briefly introducing yourself and your farm. Before starting the actual tour, it is important to explain the farm rules. A farm is not a playground – everyone must follow certain guidelines.

To wrap up the visit with a final discussion in a relaxed setting, you should provide a space with seating. This should be a quiet area that is sheltered from wind and, if necessary, heated during the winter months.
